Moving Forward - Centre of Expertise

The Minister for Environment, Sustainability and Housing has approved further funding for 2008-2011 to enable Ecodesign Centre (EDC) to continue to operate as a centre of expertise.

EDC, the Centre of Expertise in ecodesign, established in 2006, will continue with its mission of proactively inspiring and leading the Welsh Assembly Government, public sector organisations and higher education to enable effective ecodesign in Welsh industry. 

Key activities will include:

• Informing policy makers and related policy development
• Undertaking international best practice studies
• Undertaking applied research and pilot projects
• Actively encouraging a ‘joined-up’ multi-stakeholder partnership approach to tacking the resource efficiency agenda, including working towards a shared vision
• Providing advice and support to priority public sector organisations, in particular business support organisations, to enable effective ecodesign intervention
• Supporting the process of embedding ecodesign in mainstream education
• Disseminating findings and communicating and promoting the benefits of ecodesign
• Ongoing monitoring and evaluating the activities of EDC
