Our Partner Universities

EDC is really pleased to be working in partnership with all of the universities in Wales offering product design undergraduate courses. We feel that this collaboration is a great achievement and a great precedent to set.

 

	Bangor University The School of Education offers a BSc (Hons) Design and Technology, focusing on Product Design and Manufacture. Their students have gained a growing reputation for producing work of a very high standard which has been exhibited nationally and drawn a great deal of media attention. 	Glamorgan University The Cardiff School of Creative & Cultural Industries is running a BSc (Hons) Product Design and a Foundation Certificate Product Design. Students are encouraged to develop the ability to think creatively and to challenge conventional ideas, often crossing the boundaries of design in the development of innovative solutions to changing lifestyles and consumer demand. 	Swansea Metropolitan University Swansea Metropolitan University offers two product design courses. The BA(Hons) Product Design programme focuses on the human-centred aspects of product design. Emphasis is placed on idea generation, form development and product styling through studio and workshop practice, allied with a sound understanding of materials and manufacturing. Students are encouraged to focus on people, exploring the visual and socio-cultural perspectives to better understand our relationships with consumer products. The BSc (Hons) programme gives students the opportunity to develop the skills, knowledge and intellectual abilities to undertake the design and development of new products based upon a clear understanding of scientific and technological principles. There is a strong emphasis on the detailed resolution of product proposals with regard to the enabling technologies, material choice and manufacturing criteria. 	University Wales Institute Cardiff (UWIC) The Cardiff School of Art and Design offers both BA and BSc (Hons) Product Design. The three-year courses include 'live' projects with national and international organisations such as Dyson, Linpac, GUL International, Addis Housewares, Hermann Miller and the BBC. Recently the course was voted in the top five for Product Design in the UK and their students have won prestigious competitions such as the Royal Society of Arts (RSA) and Corus. In line with their approach to socially responsible design, Michael Braungart has recently been appointed visiting Professor.  Link to the UWIC website
