Our final Ecodesign Support Package meeting was held 14 August 2008 hosted by G24 Innovations, one of our partner companies. This close off meeting provided an opportunity for EDC’s partner companies to collectively discuss their journeys over the last year, showcase final designs and to discuss future plans.
EDC brought the four companies together to hold a round table discussion to reflect upon the 12 month demonstration projects. Where appropriate the companies brought along prototypes and examples to help illustrate their work. The meeting was structured around the following questions:
- In terms of your project development what have been your key successes?
- What is going to happen next?
- What have been your biggest hurdles and what lessons have you learnt?
- What worked and what didn’t work in relation to the ESP package?
Although the type and breadth of work was different there were several similarities. All companies felt that as a result of the ESP that they were more informed about their impacts. The most significant challenge seemed to be aligning business demands and product development timescales alongside environmental R&D work. EDC partner companies fed back that the ESP process had greatly contributed to keeping ecodesign on their company agenda both on an operational and board level.
After the discussion the group had the opportunity to take a tour of G24 Innovations to learn more about the photovoltaic film technology. We also learnt about their plans to build a wind turbine to power the site and took a tour of their new company vegetable garden.
