Rockwool Hosts Commercial Support Workshop

Rockwool logo A Commercial Support workshop was held 14 November 2007 in partnership with Rockwool Ltd. This was exclusively for our four partner companies. It involved a presentation and informal discussion session enabling the companies to witness how a multinational company embraces environmental issues, get a better understanding of the commercial advantages that this approach brings and to network.

Rockwool Ltd, based near Bridgend, South Wales is the UK's leading manufacturer of mineral wool. The natural characteristic of Rockwool’s mineral wool provides three advantages - thermal efficiency, fire safety and acoustic protection. Made primarily from volcanic rock, an abundantly available resource, during its lifetime it can save several hundred times more energy than is used for its production.

The company have received many environmental accolades and therefore have many experiences to share. Rockwool kindly offered to host our first Commercial Support workshop in November.

During the workshop, we learnt about Rockwool’s commitment to sustainability. This included an overview of the production process and strategies to reduce waste and material use, the companies comprehensive environmental testing and last but not least, their involvement with the local community and local environment.

This informal session enabled our four partner companies to openly discuss their individual projects and the challenges they face. The Rockwool presentation stimulated a lot of discussion encouraging each company to reflect upon what lessons they could take from the day.
