IDI Design Awards Judging Day September 2008

EDC were delighted to get an invite to become a judge on the 10th Annual IDI Design Awards 2008. The awards are co-ordinated by the Institute of Designers in Ireland (IDI), the professional body representing the interests of Irish designers.

Along with Frank O’Connor the other three international jurors were:

• Kirsten Dietz, founder and director of the agency strichpunkt
• Tom Hostler, co-founder and managing partner of the creative ‘practice’ Poke
• Kees Spanjers, the director of Zaanen Spanjers Architects in Amsterdam, specializing in cultural buildings and public interiors, and the president of the European Council of Interior Architects since September 2004

Categories included commercial interior & exhibition design, visual communications, multimedia design, product design, design for all and design sustainability. The judging involved individual evaluation followed by a round-table discussion to assess how successful the designer was in achieving the objectives set out in the design brief. The jury chairperson, Stephen Conlon, a founder member of the IDI, facilitated this discussion.

The jury also judged entrants from Irish undergraduate and postgraduate design students for separate student awards.

The IDI Awards ceremony will take place on Wednesday the 8th of October 2008 at Mansion House, Dublin, Ireland.
